That scent on the air is the start of a fresh Bundesliga season. Just weeks out from first kick against Hamburger SV, Bayern Munich get their first real clash of the year as they take on VfL Wolfsburg in the perennial German showcase, the DfL SuperCup.
After the last three straight SuperCups saw Bayern Munich start off the season against Borussia Dortmund, this year's iteration sets them up against Dieter Hecking's impressive Wolfsburg side who won the first DFB Pokal in their organizations history.
With newcomers Arturo Vidal and Douglas Costa, this is many fans first opportunity to see how Bayern Munich's newest players integrate alongside familiar faces like Philipp Lahm and Thomas Müller. While in most respects a glorified friendly, the DFL SuperCup still represents the first true test of Pep Guardiola's pre-season tinkering and training. Not to mention Bayern Munich owe Wolfsburg a spanking after their last match in January when Wolfsburg trounced Bayern behind a 4-1 scoreline. Exorcising some demons is a great way to kick off a season.
Once the lineups are released, this thread will be updated.
