Every preseason in recent years has a youngster that bursts on the scene from Bayern Munich's youth ranks. In 2011 it was Emre Can, 2012 Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, 2013 Julian Green, and 2014 Gianluca Gaudino. Who will it be in 2015? It might be 17-year-old Fabian Benko.
Benko is due to skip over the U19 level and go straight to the Bayern reserve team in the Regionalliga, according to Sport Bild. He currently is a member of the U17 German national team, although coach Christian Wück elected to leave him on the call-up list for the Euro U17 Championships.
Although he will likely spend most of the season under Heiko Vogel, Fussball Vorort is under the impression Pep Guardiola could bring him into the first team picture. Benko scored eight goals in 22 appearances last season for Bayern's U17 team, and Vogel started him three times with the U19 team at the end of the season.
With Bayern getting their preseason underway on Wednesday, chances are Benko is a name that will pop up once or twice throughout Bayern's seven friendlies in the month of July.
