Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed in a press conference this morning that Bastian Schweinsteiger will leave Bayern Munich this summer for Manchester United.
New signing Joshua Kimmich was actually the first to break the news. While Rummenigge was stuck in traffic on his way to Allianz, Kimmich dropped the bomb, saying, "It's a shame Schweinsteiger is leaving. I feel like I could have learned a lot from him."
Schweinsteiger still had a year left on his contract with Bayern and the deal with United is rumored to be around 21 million euros. He leaves the club having won seven Bundesliga titles and one Champions League title.
Rummenigge clarified that Schweinsteiger made the decision to leave the club because he "wanted to do something new at the end of his career." He is leaving on good terms with the club and Bayern have offered him a farewell match.
There is now a large gap to fill in midfield, but Rummenigge is looking toward Kimmich, Hojbjerg, Alaba and Thiago to fill his shoes.
Thanks for the memories, Fußballgott.
