After surprisingly not appearing in Saturday's match against Bayer Leverkusen, Sebastian Rode will also not make an appearance for Bayern Munich in Wednesday's match against FC Barcelona. The 23-year-old midfielder has been sidelined with a hamstring issue that is making it impossible for him to compete in Bayern Munich's biggest match yet.
This is huge blow for Bayern Munich as Sebastian Rode has been an invaluable piece of their late game midfield plan this season. His engine rivals that of Thomas Müller and his ball winning and tenacity in midfield has added a strong aggressive late presence in many matches. That presence has allowed Bayern Munich to dominate and control games at the exact moment when their opposition is weakest.
Given that one of Barcelona's biggest weaknesses is their midfield and their ability to maintain control of a game is predicated on stamping their style of play on the game, losing the services of as dynamic a player as Sebastian Rode who is very capable of disrupting that ability could be a massive blow for Bayern Munich. While Thiago, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Philipp Lahm are all equally capable of filling that role, they will all likely start leaving few late game options for Guardiola in central midfield.
