Watch: Bayern Munich beat Mainz 05 in Bundesliga finale

FC Bayern head to their championship celebrations with a victory.

It doesn't quite make a lot of sense to say that Bayern Munich needed to win the final Bundesliga game of the season, right? Bayern clinched the title all the way back on April 25 when they beat Hertha Berlin. How could this game be must win?

The six matches that followed the title clincher are why this match was a game that Bayern "needed to win". In those six games, Bayern dropped five of the six which included being knocked out of the semifinals in the DFB Pokal and UEFA Champions League. So, despite the fact that the club really had nothing to play for in the match, FC Bayern needed to win the match and head into their championship celebrations in a good mood.

FC Bayern played well on the day with Bastian Schweinsteiger and Mario Götze playing their best matches in quite a while for FCB. With Robert Lewandowski trailing in the race for the Torjägerkanone, he was given the honors of converting the penalty kick. Then, Schweinsteiger put the match away in the second half with a tidy little goal to help send the Allianz Arena into pure, unadulterated joy.
