Bayern Munich announce Inter Milan clash and two other friendlies for China trip

Bayern Munich announced friendlies with Inter Milan, Valencia CF, and Guangzhou Evergrande for their 2015 trip to China

After heading west to the USA last summer, Bayern Munich are heading east this year as their international trip sees them visit China. Today, Bayern Munich announced of the major details of that trip which will be book ended by their participation in the Telekom Cup on July 12th and and the Audi Cup on August 4th.

The team announced today in a press release that their visit will include three friendlies:

  • July 18th vs. Valencia CF ; Olympic Stadium, Beijing, China
  • July 21st vs. Internazionale Milano ; Shanghai, China
  • July 23rd vs. Guangzhou Evergrande ; location not announced

All three clubs are teams Bayern Munich have a storied past with having faced Valencia and Inter Milan in UEFA Champions League finals in 2001 and 2010 respectively while Guangzhou Evergrande squared off against Bayern in the 2013 FIFA Club World Cup. Adding additional intrigue to the clash is that Valencia was the former home of Juan Bernat while the Inter-Milan match sees Xherdan Shaqiri get to ply his trade against his former teammates.

This trip is a vital part of Bayern Munich's continuing approach to strengthening their position in the East Asian markets, specifically in China where Bayern already have a reported 90 million fans. Which, in case you didn't know, is 10 million more people than live in the country of Germany.
