Returning to the practice pitch earlier this week, David Alaba trained with his Bayern Munich teammates on Wednesday as they prepare for their final match of the season against Mainz. He did not, however, return to full team activities, likely eliminating him from team selection for the Bundesliga finale.
The 22-year-old was able to do passing drills with his teammates, but he returned to individual drills once Alaba has missed the last seven weeks with a cruciate tear in his knee he sustained playing for the Austrian national team.
The injury has put a damper on what was a break out campaign for Alaba, causing him to miss Bayern's biggest matches, including the quarterfinals and semifinals of the UEFA Champions League and the DFB-Pokal. Alaba has made 29 appearances this season in all competition for Bayern, averaging 88.1 minutes per appearance while recording five goals and three assists.
Juan Bernat will likely start at left back in his place. Bernat is second on the team to Manuel Neuer in minutes played, with 4027 so far this season.
