Michael Eberwein has played his last match as a member of the Bayern Munich academy system. The 19-year-old will head to Borussia Dortmund II in the 3. Liga next season, the striker signing a two year contract with the Schwarzgelben.
Dortmund hails Eberwein as a "quick and header-strong talent" according to kicker. Eberwein scored 13 goals and recorded 4 assists in 25 appearances with the Bayern U19s in 2014/15 season, which came to a close on Sunday with a 0-5 loss to Hoffenheim U19. He came up empty in the UEFA Youth League, failing to get on the score sheet in the six group matches Bayern U19 played. He ends his stay at the U19 level with 22 goals in 59 appearances.
Had Eberwein stayed at Bayern, the club likely would have destined him to the reserve team in the Regionalliga Bayern, but instead he possibly shoots up to the 3. Liga with BVBII. He played with the senior team in friendlies before the season started, playing against the Red Barons Fan Club and MSV Duisburg. He also made the trip to Qatar during the Winterpause, making an appearance against the Qatari All-Stars and Al-Hilal.
Borussia Dortmund II are due to return Nikolaos Ioannidis back to Olympiakos CFP from loan at the end of the 3. Liga season, clearing up a spot for Eberwein to take. The team currently sits in the relegation zone on 36 points, needing two victories to either surpass Hansa Rostock or FSV Mainz 05 II to remain in the third tier of German football.
