Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was in attendance at the Grünwalder Stadion on Sunday afternoon as Bayern Munich defeated SGS Essen and winning the Frauen-Bundesliga. It's the first league championship for the women since 1976!

Before the match, Rummenigge said that if the Frauen were able to win the Bundesliga, they would join the men in the end of season parade through the streets of Munich. At the end of the match, you could see the joy in Rummenigge's face as the celebrations began on the field. While this championship was unexpected, it was certainly earned.

"Our girls did a great job. Wolfsburg, Frankfurt and Potsdam were surely the favorites. It is a bit of a surprise championship but they went all season unbeaten. Super! We've never had that before, that the men as well as the women won the German championship. As the first German club, we now have the men and the women as champions. You can only give the men and the women a great compliment. You can see Thomas Wörle's signature all over this. You can see that good work is being done here."

Head coach Thomas Wörle deserves enormous credit for this championship. There was enormous turnover after last season, and he was able to have the team play through an unbeaten campaign.

"I am speechless. I have to give my team a great compliment. We put together an entirely new team after last season and are now champions without a single loss. What they've accomplished is just sensational. A truly great achievement. I am very, very proud. It is unbelievable."

This was the twelfth season in the Frauen-Bundesliga for Melanie Behringer. In several seasons with Freiburg, Frankfurt, and Bayern, this is the first championship for the FCB captain.

"It's my first championship, I almost can't believe it. It's just sensational."

Vivianne Miedema

"It's unbelievable. We worked so hard for it and I'm just overjoyed. Thomas formed a great team. That was decisive in the end this season."

DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach

"It's incredible that the champions of the men's and women's came are from the same city. Congratulations to Bayern. Today was a fantastic advert for women's football."

Germany head coach Silva Neid

"Their victory is the result of continued hard work. I have a lot of respect for Thomas Wörle, who has assembled a great team."
