In what was a well attended local Derby, Bayern Munich II survived a tough test against promotion rival TSV 1860 Munich II, getting the goal they needed to win 1-0.
"We fought for 90 minutes. Of course I am happy we succeeded with the decisive goal," manager Erik ten Hag said after the game.
That goal came from Lukas Görtler, and boy was it a beauty. Wet snow falling all around him, he takes advantage of the space Vladimir Kovač and Emanuel Taffertshoffer generously provide him and slots a curler into the far corner. It was his 10th goal of the season, and it helped slowly eliminate one of the contenders for promotion out of the Regionalliga.
The victory was the 16th of the season for the kleine Bayern. Würzburger Kicker's match against Augsburg II was postponed, so the reserves took their game in hand to close the gap to eight points with 12 matches to go. Bayern II travel to Eintracht Bamberg at the end of the week, who are currently facing a relegation playoff.
"I am very satisfied. We wanted to remain at the top and we are already set for Bamberg on Friday," said manager Erik ten Hag. "The win was a terrific experience for our fans."
