WATCH: Bayern Munich II Win Fourth Straight vs. Bamberg

The reserves take advantage of the man advantage to inch closer to Würzburger Kickers at the top of the table.

Bayern Munich II got their second win in five days last Friday, disposing of a shorthanded Eintracht Bamberg 2-0 to inch closer to the top of the Regionalliga Bayern.

Matthias Strohmaier opened the scoring in the second half in what was a very tight match, bopping in a set-piece delivery from Bastian Fischer to collect his first goal as a member of the reserves. Bastian Fischer scored against the run of play in the dying embers of the match to see out the fourth consecutive victory for the kleine Bayern.

"We won against a passionately acting team," Bayern II manager Erik ten Hag said. "Even with the man advantage it was a very tough match. I am very satisfied with three points. Altogether it was a very successful week for us."

Bamberg's captain Marco Hillemeier picked up two early yellow cards, getting sent off in the 26th minute. Down a man, Bamberg was able to at least see out the rest of the half shorthanded, But Fischer changed the dynamic of the match when ten Hag brought him on in the second half.

Rico Strieder, the captain of the reserves, returned from a red card suspension to play all 90 minutes, and Nikola Jelisić replaced Patrick Weihrauch in left midfield. Veteran Stefan Buck and new arrival Kodjovi Kossou still remain out with injuries.

With Würzburg's draw against Ingolstadt II, the reserves now remain six points away from the top with seven matches still to play. Bayern II certainly have the easier set of fixtures, Würzburg still having to play FV Illertissen, Augsburg II, and Bayreuth. The reserves will play relegation candidate Garching on Friday to continue their progression towards the promotion playoff.
