Quotes

Pep Guardiola

"We started well and stopped them getting at us on the break. We tried everything but without Franck and Arjen it was tough. In the second half we played with too much heart and not enough head. Gladbach did very well. We didn't lose due to Manu but because we had problems in attack. It's the Bundesliga and people think it's always easy, but I know how difficult it is. We'll analyse the game and after the international break we'll get back to winning ways."

Manuel Neuer

"Gladbach were very good and defended excellently. We didn't create any genuine chances. That wasn't good enough. Obviously we wanted to do much better and we've missed a chance because Wolfsburg dropped points today. But it won't darken our mood. We know what we're aiming for this season. We'll look to the future and we're optimistic."

Lucien Favre (Gladbach coach)

"We played very well. It was important we defended so well. Bayern were outstanding for 20, 25 minutes and it was hard for us as we hardly ever had possession. Then we scored a rather lucky goal. The second half was better. We played our football and found good solutions. But it's only a single game and three points, and it's already in the past."

Max Eberl (Gladbach sporting director)

"It was a six-pointer. We've been very consistent since the winter break. Taking three points in Munich does you the world of good."

Martin Stranzl (Gladbach captain)

"We'd been planning to defend higher up the field. We kept our cool and waited for our chance, and ultimately we've done very well. At the start Robben pulled us this way and that, but it was a lot more comfortable after that. We worked very hard on our tactics before the match. Lucien Favre drummed it into every player, and that carried over into the team."

Patrick Herrmann (Gladbach midfielder)

"We played really well, even if Bayern had more of the ball. Otherwise we kept getting at them on the break and that's how we scored our goals today."
