Bayern striker wins Player of the Week over Kevin de Bruyne

Robert Lewandowski won the Bundesliga Player of the Week for Matchday 25 with a brace against Werder Bremen

It wasn't a particularly contentious poll, but this week Robert Lewandowski won the Bundesliga Player of the Week award with his brace against Werder Bremen in Bayern Munich's 4-0 win on Saturday. In most cases a brace is good enough to win accolades, but considering Lewandowski was up against a masterclass performance from Wolfsburg's Kevin de Bruyne it was a bit of a shock as there was some consternation here as to why Lewandowski was even nominated over counterpart Thomas Müller.

Kevin de Bruyne notched a beautiful goal to along with two assists and was once again the hub around which everything at Wolfsburg flowed. That he didn't win the award this week is a shame, despite the fact that I now get to a bigger reason to celebrate an excellent Robert Lewandowski brace.

Lewandowski accrued 52% of the votes while de Bruyne finished with 39%, both outstripping Patrick Hermann who finished with a paltry 9% following his own brace on Sunday.
