Restarting their Regionalliga season following a three month break, Bayern Munich II came up empty when they travelled down the road to Augsburg. The reserves could not overcome an early goal to lose their first match of 2015 0-1 to Augsburg II.
Augsburg pressured Bayern right from the opening whistle, and a quick opener from Merveille Biankadi came as a result (the match report called the goal a "wake-up). The reserves had chances in the second half, but Lukas Görtler and Gerrit Wegkamp could not find the equalizer.
"I am very disappointed with the result," said reserve manager Erik ten Hag. "We were superior and hardly allowed anything. But we were not greedy enough in front of the opposing goal. I expect a different face of the team in the coming matches."
With the defeat, the reserves fall further behind Würzburger Kickers to retain their Regionalliga Bayern title. The Rothosen have already brought in support from the higher leagues as they try to complete their promotion, so dethroning them will be an arduous task. Bayern elected has not promoted any of their U19 players either, Michael Eberwein, Marco Hingerl, Sinan Kurt, and Lukas Scholl all playing wit the U19 team in 2015.
Their next match is on Thursday against Ingolstadt II, a side not very far below them in the Regionalliga Bayern table in sixth place.
