Mehdi Benatia picked up a yellow card in the 62nd minute of Bayern Munich's victory over Werder Bremen. The card was his fifth yellow, and the centerback is now suspended for Bayern's next match against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The suspension comes at a bad time for Benatia. The Moroccan just returned from various niggling injuries that have plagued him over the last several weeks. He put in a good performance against Werder, and with the season coming down to the "business part", FC Bayern need Benatia playing at his elite level.
With Benatia out against Gladbach, Pep Guardiola will decide between Holger Badstuber and Dante for who to partner with Jerome Boateng on the backline. Since returning from injury, we've seen Badstuber playing at the top level that everyone knows he's capable of reaching. Everyone has seen Dante's drop in form over recent months, so it's likely that Pep will be picking between Badstuber and Benatia to pair with Jerome Boateng, who is currently the world's best centerback.
