The Bundesliga has announced the five goals that are up for Goal of the Week after Matchday 24, and Bayern Munich have a player up for the award. While he won't be the favorite for the award, he's definitely in with a shout.
Minutes after Hannover 96 took the lead, FC Bayern earned a free kick at the top of the penalty area. Xabi Alonso stepped up to take the free kick. Even while sliding to the ground when taking the kick, Alonso still placed the ball perfectly into the back of the net to equalize for Bayern. The goal was Alonso's second in a FC Bayern shirt with the first also coming from a free kick.
Christian Fuchs also makes the top five with his left footed half volley against Hoffenheim. The goal came after a cross from Marco Höger, and it jump started Schalke's attack to the tune of a 3-1 victory.
Alonso wasn't the only free kick to be nominated this week. Johannes Geis scored from far out to pull Mainz back into their match against Borussia Mönchengladbach. They would go on to earn a 2-2 draw.
Heung-Min Son makes the list for a rather simple tap in on nice team goal. Gonzalo Castro headed a long cross back into the path of Son who only had to touch the ball past Paderborn's goalkeeper in Bayer Leverkusen's big victory.
However, my pick for goal of the week belongs to Franco Di Santo. His wonder strike against Freiburg gave Werder Bremen a big 1-0 victory. Surprisingly, Werder are now only six points out of a Champions League place.
