Quotes

Matthias Sammer

"We applied a lot of pressure in the first 25 minutes, we were good and determined. But later, we nearly conceded a second goal to make it 2-2, and that can't be happening. We never depend on opponents, it's only ever about us. We're happy with the win but we're not about to be deceived. And all credit to Köln: they played to their strengths and we weren't able to do a few things we'd planned to do. But it gives us something to work on."

Pep Guardiola

"I'm happy. We've beaten the second-best away team in the league and scored four goals, which is very, very difficult against these opponents. We started well, but we lost control after a while. Once Arjen had made it 3-1 it was a completely different game again. We recovered our dominance. But we won today because Manu made two outstanding saves."

Arjen Robben

"It was odd today. We started well, we raced into a 2-0 lead and everyone was thinking it might be another gala. We'd got into the game and were aggressive. But we slowed it down in the last ten minutes of the first half and conceded a goal at the worst possible time. You go in at half-time not feeling so good. We didn't start the second half very well and I have to say that Manuel Neuer earned us the win. The saves he made were incredible."

Holger Badstuber

"It was hard work. I'm becoming more and more stable personally. It's great that I'm getting playing time and match practice. Every game and every minute is helpful, but there are a few things to improve."

Peter Stöger (Köln coach)

"We showed too much respect at the start, but we fought our way back into it after going two goals down. We almost equalised in the second half but we weren't up against any old keeper, that was Manuel Neuer. He made two unbelievable reaction saves. We're not happy, but it was a decent overall display."

Timo Horn (Köln keeper)

"It started badly. After they went 2-0 up everyone was thinking it'd be another HSV or Paderborn. But we seized our courage in both hands. We did very well at times and even made chances, although if you get a chance against Bayern you have to take it."
