With Bayern Munich limping into the winter break with injuries galore and following a drubbing at the hands of Borussia Monchengladbach, Pep Guardiola needed a big win to help right the ship. With a depleted squad, he fielded a lineup that was interesting to say the least, with a mix of underused bench players and youth prospects.
Understandably, given the team that was fielded, Bayern struggled to generate any kind of an attack despite having the upper hand in possession. Dinamo seemed content watching and waiting for their chance to counter attack. A few scoring chances were exchanged with El Arbi Soudani leading the way. After Medhi Benatia went down to yet another injury, Bayern entered halftime with a 0-0 scoreline.
After the restart, Pep decided enough was enough and subbed on Thomas Muller. It paid off almost immediately as he and Robert Lewandowski teamed up for the games first goal with Lewa delivering a brilliant header. Not too much longer after that, the dynamic duo struck again for goal number two.
There was a bit of a scare later on in the game as Rafinha needed to make a diving interception on a sure fire goal scoring opportunity and a follow up shot went off the crossbar, but outside of that sequence, Zagreb didn't threaten Bayern that much and Die Roten cruised to secure all three points.
