While nothing is official yet, Bayern Munich appear to be heading back to Qatar this winter for another training camp. This will be the sixth consecutive winter in which the Bavarians are headed to the Gulf state.
Before Bayern left for Zagreb for their Champions League match, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was asked about the the purported trip. He said that they were hoping to have a decision set by the end of the week, but "as of today, we're going to the heat of Qatar again."
Bayern have made good use of the Aspire Academy facilities in recent years. With other Bundesliga clubs also making the trip to Qatar along with local clubs, there's no shortage of available friendly matches.
While last year's trip was a success, the club did manage to generate a bit of controversy due to a side trip during the camp. You'll remember that the Bavarians made a brief detour into Saudi Arabia for a friendly match and took a lot of heat from fans, media, and German politicians for the trip.
Let's hope they manage to steer clear of problems this time.
