Bayern Munich take big lead in Frauen Bundesliga, beat SGS Essen 2-1

Bayern Munich continued their tremendous run atop the Frauen Bundesliga with a 2-1 victory over SGS Essen. The Bavarians have clinched the Herbstmeisterschaft with a nine point lead and only two matches to play before the winter break.

The Bavarians wasted no time jumping out in front with a 6th minute goal. Caroline Abbé managed to find space to head home an early corner kick. The goal was Abbé's second of the season.

Gina Lewandowski nearly doubled that lead in the 22nd minute, but her shot from distance skipped off the top of the crossbar. Had the shot gone in, surely it would've been up for goal of the season.

With the final minutes of the match ticking away, Sara Däbritz broke the deadlock. With a hard shot from out wide, Däbritz beat Essen goalkeeper Lisa Weiß at her near post to give Bayern the victory.

Bayern are now nine points clear at the top of the table ahead of Wolfsburg and Frankfurt. Aside from one draw, Bayern have run the table picking up nine wins out of ten games. They return to the field with a DFB Pokal Quarterfinal match against Werder Bremen midweek.
