Bayern Munich announced on Sunday that Pep Guardiola will not be renewing his contract with the club following it's expiration this summer. However, moving quickly to ensure that the club remains in world class managerial hands, FC Bayern have already announced that Carlo Ancelotti will be taking over the team after Guardiola.

It's a move that, while expected in recent weeks, will disappoint many fans who love the way that Guardiola fully immersed himself in Bayern and Germany during his few years at the club.

"We are grateful to Pep Guardiola for everything he has given our club since 2013," Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenige said in a statement. "I am convinced that Pep and our team will now work even more intensively towards achieving our major sporting goals - especially as it is now confirmed that Pep is to leave FC Bayern."

Bayern have enjoyed great success in Guardiola's first two seasons winning the Bundesliga twice and the DFB Pokal, UEFA Supercup, and Club World Cup once. The Champions League has alluded them so far, with Bayern being eliminated in the semifinals by Spanish opposition in both years.

As for his replacement, Bayern announced in the same release that Carlo Ancelotti would be stepping in to fill the void left by Guardiola. His contract in Munich will be for three years, through the summer of 2019.

"Carlo Ancelotti has enjoyed success everywhere as a coach and has won the Champions League three times," Rummenigge said. "Carlo is a calm, balanced expert, who knows how to deal with stars and favours a multifaceted style of play - we were looking for this, and we have found it. We are looking forward to working with him."

Ancelotti has been super successful everywhere that he's been, coaching some of the biggest clubs in the world: Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid. In those stops, he won the Champions League three times (Milan twice, Madrid once).

"I am very honoured that I will be coach of the great club FC Bayern from next season," Ancelotti said.

FC Bayern has undergone an evolution since Guardiola joined the club in the summer of 2013. Now, Bayern are unquestionably counted among the world's biggest and best clubs in all aspects on and off the field. The swift actions of moving for such a world class coach like Ancelotti shows that the club will not take being "second best" as an option.
