Bayern Munich will play host to Ingolstadt at the Allianz Arena on Saturday in a Bavarian Derby. Twenty points and ten places separate the two sides in the table, but that won't be evident on the field when the two teams do battle.
Another injury crisis is rearing it's ugly head at Bayern. The club will be without David Alaba, Medhi Benatia, Juan Bernat, Douglas Costa, Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben against Ingolstadt. For nearly every club in the world, this would be a death knell to their chances. However, FC Bayern have been building a squad that can compete on a global stage week-in and week-out. The team will be ready for the remaining three games before the winter break.
If previous seasons are anything to go by, Ingolstadt are well on their way to securing a second season in the top flight. This is the Bavarian club's first ever Bundesliga season, and they have 20 points after their first 15 games. Over the last five seasons, the most points needed to avoid relegation has been 37. It's a worthwhile target for Die Schanzer, and it never hurts to see another Bavarian club in the first division.
On paper, this is a match that Bayern should easily skate to all three points. However, with midweek games and injuries piling up for the Bavarians, this could end up tougher than one might imagine.
Once the lineups are released, this thread will be updated.
