Bayern Munich turned in a trio of goals in extra time to blow past Werder Bremen 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the DFB Pokal. The Bavarians move on to the semifinals where they move one step closer to a domestic double for the 2015-16 season.
Twenty two points separate Bayern and Werder in the Frauen Bundesliga, and Bayern were determined to show that difference on the field from the start. While they controlled the match throughout, they were unable to find the goal that would break the deadlock.
Vanessa Bürki, Melanie Leupolz and Kristie Mewis came close to putting FCB in front, but while they remember to bring their shooting boots to the stadium on the day, they left their finishing laces at home.
Then, halfway through the first period of extra time, the floodgates opened for FC Bayern. Gina Lewandowski kicked off the scoring in the 97th minute, and Vivianne Miedema chipped in a brace before the end of the match for Bayern to finally coast to a 3-0 victory.
Bayern will be joined in the semifinals by SC Sand, Freiburg, and Wolfsburg. The matches won't be played until April 3.
