With several of their biggest stars missing in action (which is really just a nice way of saying more injury) Bayern Munich can still roll out a heavy hitting lineup agasint Hertha BSC. Douglas Costa, Arjen Robben, and David Alaba are all out with minor injuries, while long term injuries to Thiago, Juan Bernat and Mario Götze will see them miss the match.
With a midfield composed of Javi Martinez and Arturo Vidal, expect this match to be equal parts midfield passing glory and bone splintering midfield challenges. That's just the way it works. Keep an eye on Javi Martinez, who's shown a propensity lately to drift up high into attack, operating more as a support striker with aerial prowess than as a true defensive midfielder.
Whether that is a three-man midfield, it is going to be key to how Bayern Munich operates. Do they eagerly push Martinez as an attacking midfielder and use Vidal as the main workhorse, or drop Martinez deep into the backline, pushing Lahm and Rafinha higher as wingbacks? Bayern Munich have several buildup and attacking options they can emphasize and I wouldn't be surprised to see all of them used in this match.
As always, Manuel Neuer anchors a backline that sees Rafinha return to the leftback spot he's so seamlessly slotted into since Alaba's injury last weekend.
