Alaba departed Saturday's match against Schalke 04 in the second half after Pierre-Emile Højbjerg collided with him on a sliding challenge. Alaba left the pitch under his own power before making his way to the tunnel, and Rafinha finished the match as Bayern's left back. Team physician Dr. Volker Braun diagnosed the injury as a capsule injury in his left ankle on Sunday.
Bayern have just two days off before they have to host Olympiacos on Tuesday at Allianz Arena. Juan Bernat is still recovering from a groin injury, so Pep Guardiola may have limited options at midweek. Rafinha has started three Bundesliga matches at left back for Bayern this season.
Mario Götze meanwhile hopes he can return after the winter break, updating the media on his progress at an autograph session at Bayern's Erlebniswelt in Allianz Arena Sunday. Götze has missed the past month with a groin injury he suffered in Germany's match against the Republic of Ireland.
"I hope I can be fully loaded for the preparations for the second half of the season and can normally step back into training," Götze said. "The healing process is very, very good. Everything is going to plan."
