Is Bayern Munich getting ready to lose one of it's midfield maestros? A veteran presence in the midfield is not planning on renewing his Bayern Munich contract once it expires, according to a report.
Xabi Alonso is planning on leaving Munich next summer when his contract expires. The soon-to-be 34 year old will depart for a new challenge at the end of the season, according to TZ.
Since joining FC Bayern before the 2014-15 season, Alonso has found himself anchoring the center of Bayern's midfield for nearly a season and a half. The Spaniard has added a calm, steady demeanor in the middle of the park which wildly contrasts with Bayern's attacking front.
While Alonso brings a passing ability to the Bayern midfield that will likely be impossible to replicate, Bayern will have several players bringing different skill sets as they try to replace him. Next summer will see the return of Pierre Hojbjerg to Munich from his loan at Schalke and the continued emergence of Joshua Kimmich.
Perhaps, it will be time for Alonso to move on to something new.
