Not a day seems to go by lately without a rumor about where FC Bayern Munich's coach Pep Guardiola will be coaching next season, and a lot of the experts are predicting it won't be in Munich. But, what do the players think? Are they happy under the Spaniard, do they enjoy working for him, and do they want him to extend his contract? According to Bayern captain, Philipp Lahm, the answer to all these questions is an unequivocal "Yes".
After the historic win against 1. FC Köln, which was the club's 1000th victory in the Bundesliga, while also extending the record for most consecutive wins to start the domestic league to ten, Lahm revealed "The team wants him to stay." This sentiment was relayed to the coach in a private conversation, according to the captain.
Continuing, Lahm said "The team's opinion is clear: We enjoy working with him and he's an outstanding coach. Everything else is out of our hands."
It remains to be seen if the appeal from the players will make a difference. Team management, who has also made no secret about their desire to continue working with Guardiola, recently announced that conversations about a possible extension would be happening before the end of the year. Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge remains confident that Pep will still be at Bayern come July 1st, and having the players come out in support of the coach can't hurt that prediction.
