In unabashed fashion, Arjen Robben ran away with the first Bavarian Football Works Player of the Hinrunde award as voted by the readers. Wrapping up a whopping eight Man of the Match awards in the first 24 matches of season, Arjen Robben was a virtual man on fire for Bayern Munich.
In a little over 1300 minutes, the 30-yar-old Dutchmen racked up 12 goals and 4 assists across 18 appearances en route to one of the most dominant first halves of a season Bayern Munich have ever had. That his aggregate rating across all appearances vastly outstripped that of his fellow teammates should come as no surprise. Earning an aggregate rank of 4.21, Arjen Robben was the sole Bayern Munich player to rate an average value about 4, or above average on the performance, for the entire hinrunde.
It's not like that should be a surprise though. Over the last 18 months, Arjen Robben has slowly crept towards the pinnacle of play that everyone had dreamed of since he first burst onto the professional scene over a decade ago. His performances for Bayern Munich have only grown better and better and in some ways you could say he carried Bayern Munich during the hinrunde.
As fans, we appreciate Arjen Robben -- as he has deservedly earned -- but sometimes it's helpful to reflect to just how fantastic a player he has become under Pep Guardiola. Eight times voted Man of the Match and now a Man of the Hinrunde to boot - here's hoping his second half is just as impressive.
