It was their fourth win of the season, making it two on trot for the Bayern Munich Amateure, as they defeated SV Seligenporten 2-1 win today as they passed the quarter mark of the Regionalliga Bayern season.
Lukas Görtler opened the scoring in the 24th minute when he rounded Seligenporten goalkeeper Domink Brunnhübner. It was Görtler's first goal of the season for the reserves but it came at a price as Görtler was introduced in the 17th minute of the game after Tobias Schweinsteiger was withdrawn with a thigh injury. Gerrit Wegkamp snagged his 6th of the season in the 57th minute to give them the 2-0 lead. Seligenporten earned one back in the 73rd minute as Rico Röder gave the near 1300 spectators something to cheer for, and despite a late bought of pressure from the hosts, they were unable to break down the Amateure defenses.
Now with 15 points to their name, Bayern Munich II, have climbed to fourth place in the Regionalliga Bayern. The return of Lukas Görtler from injury will do wonders to buoy their hopes now while the return of centerback Matthias Strohmaier from injury will hopefully bring some needed solidity to a defense that has shipped 10 goals in as many games. However, they have a great deal of work to do as they still sit 7 points behind league leaders Kickers Würzburg who have a game in hand. The potential additions of Sinan Kurt, Gianluca Gaudino, and Lukas Scholl are looming large on the horizon and could go a long way towards boosting their fortunes this season.
Bayern Munich II play host to Eintrach Bamberg next Friday. The visitors currently sit in 17th place in the Regionalliga Bayern, and with a quarter of the season gone, the relegation zone is starting to look a little foreboding.
Lineup: Zingerle; Steinhart, Buck, Sallahi, Basta, Oikonomou, Weihrauch, Jelisic (89 Strohmaier), T.Schweinsteiger (17 Wegkamp), Fischer (68 Puchegger), Wegkamp
