We've been discussing for months how Xherdan Shaqiri is growing frustrated with his lack of playing time at Bayern Munich. He's a talented player, no doubt, but he's not quite good enough to overtake the players in front of him on Bayern's team at this moment. We also know that Bayern weren't interested in just letting Shaqiri go.
There was a brief rumor during the summer that Bayern were interested in bringing in Wolfsburg's Swiss left back Ricardo Rodriguez. However, the club moved to bring in Juan Bernat from Valencia instead. Rodriguez stayed in Wolfsburg and continues to be linked with various clubs through the world, including Manchester United.
Now, WAZ is reporting that Bayern will be making another move for Rodriguez in the January transfer window. Merkur chimes in with the following to see through this transfer this winter. Their thought is that Shaqiri will leave Bayern in the winter window, while Rodriguez joins the club. Then, Alaba remains in the midfield, and Bernat fills in defense and midfield.
The Swiss left back is under contract with Wolfsburg through 2016, and they're now working to sign him to an extension.
What are your thoughts on Bayern potentially signing the two best left backs in the world (both are 22 years old) to their team? Would you be willing to part with Shaqiri if this was part of the deal?
