If you like offense and mismatches, then today was your day. FC Bayern Munich Frauen systematically destroyed TSV Schott Mainz for 90 minutes and won the game 9-1. With the win, Bayern advances to the round of 16 for the DFB-Pokal.
Bayern started the scoring early with a goal by Ricarda Walking in the second minute. The team did not let up with the first goal though and within the first 20 minutes was leading 3-0.
The DFB-Pokal Frauen is the women's domestic cup that includes all teams in the Frauen-Bundesliga and 2.Frauen-Bundesliga. It also includes the winners of regional cups, which is how TSV Schott Mainz entered the tournament. Bayern has won the tournament one time, in 2012, by beating FFC Frankfurt 2-0 in the finals.
Throughout the game today, Bayern was in control over the third division side and closed the first half with a 5-1 lead. No changes were made at the half, and Bayern scored their sixth goal of the game in the 51nd minute with a goal by Vanessa Bürki.
The game ended 9-1 with goals from Walking (3), Manieri, Lewandowski, Brooks, Burki, Beckmann, and FeierSinger.
With the win, Bayern moves onto the round of 16 in the cup. They were eliminated in that round last year by FC Köln and will look to go farther this year.
Their next cup match will probably not be as easy as this one, but hopefully they will continue the momentum and make a deep cup run.
