Bayern Munich gave us a glimpse on Tuesday of what they're capable of during a 4-0 route of SC Paderborn. Yes, heading into the match, the newly promoted side were sitting at the top of the Bundesliga table. However, I fully expected that Bayern would win this match. Top to bottom, FC Bayern were unquestionably the better side, and playing at home, anything other than three points was unacceptable.
To that point, Bayern needed an early goal. The longer Paderborn stayed in the match, the more confident they would grow. They had shown in the previous four Bundesliga matches that they could take their chances if they were there. Thankfully, this happened.
Putting that ball into the back of the net was World Cup winning goal scorer Mario Götze. It's a sublimely struck ball to give Bayern the 1-0 lead. Yes, the buildup from Arjen Robben and Thomas Müller is special. It puts Götze in the perfect position to get his shot off.
However, Götze does get the ball into the back of the net, which has been an issue lately for this team. His second goal was all about being in the right place at the right time. It's a valuable trait is vital when your team is struggling to score goals.
So, for me, that's why I'm going with Mario Götze as my man of the match. There's still time to vote in the player ratings from the Paderborn match. We'll follow up on Thursday with a review of who the community picked as man of the match.
