Bayern Munich Frauen earned three points today with a 3-1 victory over 1899 Hoffenheim. The reds dominated the game and had three different goalscorers in their first game back from the international break. With the  win, Bayern moves into third place in the league table.

Bayern had the momentum early on in the game with early chances by Katie Stengel and Melanie Leupolz. For the first quarter of the game, Bayern dominated possession, and Hoffenheim looked disorganized.

In the 21st minute, Bayern broke through with a goal by newcomer Caroline Abbe.  This was the defenders first goal of the season as well as her first goal in a Bayern uniform.  The goal came off of a beautiful cross by Amber Brooks, who was making her season debut after being loaned by the Portland Thorns.  Brooks had been a key member of the team in 2012 and 2013 before heading to the United States.

The game became more open after the Bayern goal, and Hoffenheim had a good chance in the 31st minute that was easily saved. Bayern ended the first half with a yellow card to Brooks but two good chances by Americans Katie Stengel and Gina Lewandowski.

Hoffenheim got their best chance of the game in the 62nd minute when a rough challenge by goalscorer Caroline Abbe was called for a penalty. Martina Moser took the kick for Hoffenheim, and the shot hit the bar before bouncing back into the field.

The score remained 1-0 and looked to end that way as it started to rain harder as the game went on. Bayern had a few more good chances in the game before substitute Vanessa Burki broke through with a goal in the 81st minute. Bayern sealed the game with another goal in the 84th minute by Viktoria Schnaderbeck, who came into the game in the 79th minute.

The game ended with a 3-0 victory for the home side. Bayern Munich was clearly the better team throughout the game, and the result confirmed that. The win brings the reds up to third place in the Frauen-Bundesliga with 7 points after three matches.

Next for FCB is a weekday match against VfL Wolfsburg. Last year Wolfsburg won the league and is currently in first place with nine points in three matches. This will be a huge test for the Bayern squad that had a large amount of turnover during the offseason. While a win would certainly make a statement, any points against the defending champions will be an accomplishment. The game is Wednesday night at Wolfsburg.
