The first stop on Bayern Munich's 2014 tour is the outskirts of New York City, where they face off against Chivas de Guadalajara. Las Chivas are one of Liga MX's (Mexican First Division) most storied franchises and a great pre-season test for die Roten as they prepare for the DFL SuperCup in two weeks time.
hey are join tied with their biggest rivls, Club America, for the most domestic Championships while they are still the only top flight club to have never been relegated from the Mexican first division. They're undoubtedly one of the biggest, and most popular, Mexican teams in all of North America and present a very good opportunity to showcase Bayern Munich not only to American, but also Hispanic, audiences in North America. Perhaps though, Chivas de Guadalajara, main claim to fame (or infamy) is their policy of only employing players of Mexican descent; a policy that at best is nationalistic, and at its worst, racist. Lately, they've been a club in some amount of trouble as they've fallen down the table after decades of success, employing six coaches in the last two-and-a-half season as they've tumbled down to the bottom of the Liga MX table.
