In any "rebuilding" of a team, it's going to take a little bit for the side to completely gel, so it's not surprise that its taken Bayern Munich II until their third match to pick up their first victory of the Regionalliga season. The reserves edged SV Heimstetten 2-1 at the Grünwalder Stadion on Saturday.
Bayern pressed forward from the opening whistle, and Heimstetten were content to sit back and try for the counter. It worked to perfection in the 11th minute. Clemens Kubina chipped Leopold Zingerle to give the visitors the lead. The nearly doubled their lead just a couple of minutes later, but Stefan Buck was on hand to clear the ball off the goal line to prevent a second.
Bayern equalized in the 18th minute through a player making his debut. Steven Ribery's cross was met by the head of Gerrit Wegkamp, and the Bavarians were level.
The reserves would take the lead and keep it in the 35th minute. Bastian Fischer's free kick was headed in by Tobias Schweinsteiger to put Bayern on top for good. The goal is Schweinsteiger's second of the seaosn.
Erik ten Hag's team pressed for more goals in the second half, and both Lukas Görtler and Ribery struck the frame with their efforts. Matthias Strohmaier also came close, but his header off of a corner kick went just over the crossbar.
FC Bayern II will take the field again on July 25 again TSV Buchbach.
