The day finally came that most Bayern Munich fans had been waiting for quite some time.
"I feel really good. I've had a great break, and I'm raring to go." - Robert Lewandowski
During Robert Lewandowski's introductory press conference at Bayern on Wednesday afternoon, he was presented with the number 9 jersey. That is the number that Mario Mandzukic wore last season with the club. Matthias Sammer put out the first statement from Bayern regarding the Croatian's future in Munich.
"There is a verbal agreement between Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich, as well as between Atletico Madrid and Mario Mandzukic. It is not signed yet but I think you can rely on my word and soon report the completed deal." - Matthias Sammer
So, there you have it directly from the mouth of the club's sporting director. We can put the transfer speculation to bed, Mandzukic will definitely not be returning to Bayern next season and will ply his trade in the Spanish capital next season.
The mantle of "Bayern Munich Forward" has been passed over recent years from Mario Gomez to Mandzukic and now to Lewandowski. Looking throughout world football, you'll be lucky to find another forward as good as Lewandowski. The Poland international has averaged over 31 goals each of the last three seasons and has his eyes set on continuing to improve his game.
"After four years in Dortmund, I wanted to take the next step. Here, I can become an even better player and win even more titles." - RL
No matter what Lewandowski thought of the expectations that were thrust upon him while playing with Borussia Dortmund, those expectations are going to be increased tenfold. Before Bayern even kick a ball in anger this season, the expectations are well known. In fact, it appears as though Mr. Lewandowski already gets it.
"In Bavaria, it is the same every season: win all of the titles." - RL
