In one six point swoop, Bayern Munich II win the Regionalliga Bayern title after a 2-0 win over FC Memmingen on Friday.
The reserve victory came paired with a daft FV Illertissen 3-2 defeat to bottom of the table Rain am Lech. With a six point gap atop the Bayern region, the lead is insurmountable.
"I am very proud of my team," manager Erik ten Hag told the club website. "We have reached our first goal. We worked for it all season."
Kevin Friesenbichler headed in the first goal in the 28th minute off of an Alessandro Schöpf cross. He now has 15 goals on the season, tied with Julian Green for the most with the reserves. Ylli Sallahi hammered a 25-meter strike in the second to secure Bayern II's 25th victory.
"We need to stay one hundred percent concentrated, but tonight we will definitely celebrate," said Friesenbichler.
Ten Hag stuck with two strikers in his set up, with Patrick Weihrauch playing adjacent to Schöpf. Raif Husic, who has started the last four matches, got his third consecutive clean sheet. Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Mitchell Weiser were not on the team sheet, making them available for selection for Bayern's final Bundesliga match against VfB Stuttgart.
According to Merkur, Bayern II will play Fortuna Köln in the promotion playoff to the 3. Bundesliga. Köln is sitting on 72 points in the Regionalliga West, holding a five point gap over Sportfreude Lotte with five matches to play. With the restructuring of the Regionalliga, this will be the first promotional playoff for the reserves, who are trying to return to the 3. Bundesliga after a three-year absence.
"Now we want to go one step further," said ten Hag. "In the promotion playoffs we need to play concentrated like up to this point and we can't permit any mistakes."
Bayern II have just Augsburg II and 1860 Rosenheim to play before the end of the regional season, two matches during which ten Hag can prepare his side for promotion.
