Report: Bayern Munich to sign Ezequiel Garay?

Reports in Argentina say that Bayern Munich has signed 27-year-old Ezequiel Garay from SL Benfica.

Argentina's largest news source, Clarin, have reported that SL Benfica centerback Ezequiel Garay will be joining Bayern Munich this summer on a €15M transfer. This report has since been picked up by numerous sources in Germany including Kicker. The Argentine was rumored to be on his way to Zenit St. Petersburg but it seems Bayern Munich have hijacked the deal.

The Argentinian international made 45 appearances for Benfica this last season and was a key component of their march to the Europa League final, where they fell to Spanish side Sevilla on penalties after a 0-0 draw. He has been an in-and-out fixture of the Argentinian national team for several years and has a long history of durability with huge game loads. He is currently on the preliminary 30-man roster for Argentina

Ezequiel Garay would go a long ways towards addressing the centerback issue that Bayern Munich have. He has been the critical piece of a Benfica defense that has allowed 20 goals or less in two straight season in the Primera Liga. Given that the rumored price is €15M, it's also a nice indication that Bayern Munich still have their heads screwed on straight after the whirlwind, and ridiculous prices, surrounding other centerback options like David Luiz, Aymeric Laporte, and Mehdi Benatia.
