Daniel Van Buyten not offered a contract extension with Bayern Munich

The Belgian centerback has not been offered a contract extension with Bayern Munich.

On the same day that Bayern Munich officially announced that Claudio Pizarro had signed a contract extension that would keep him with FCB for another year, news came out from various papers that The Belgian Giant Daniel Van Buyten would not be offered a contract extension.

"After discussion, I agreed with Bayern that I would no longer be playing for them. At 36, it's not easy to train daily with the best team in the world. But, I am welcome in another possible role. Those discussions are not finished."

What might this other role be? Well, those same papers go on to speculate that Van Buyten could find himself with FC Bayern II, if the reserves earn promotion into the 3.Liga. However, they don't go into speculate more beyond that. It could be anything from a player, player/coach, or just coach. He also has interest from other, smaller clubs in Germany and his native Belgium. Van Buyten's decision won't come until after the World Cup, where he will make his final appearances for Belgium.

Would you be interested in seeing Van Buyten stick around and anchor FCBII's defense in the 3.Liga if promoted?
