Reports in Sportal have linked Xherdan Shaqiri with a summer move away from the Allianz Arena. The 22-year-old Swiss international is a target of Spain's Sevilla who just yesterday reached the final of the UEFA Europa League.
After a stellar first season with Bayern Munich under Jupp Heynckes, Xherdan Shaqiri had what should be described as an up and down season under new coach Pep Guardiola. While multiple hamstring and thigh injuries have kept him sidelined for much of the season, it would be a sad day to see the Swiss Pikachu no longer darn Bayern red.
Shaqiri has flashed moments of brilliant play at Bayern Munich and while he has already become a huge cog in the the Switzerland national team, a move to Sevilla following the World Cup would be a great way to cement his playing time. Especially given the return of on-loan Marko Marin to Chelsea and the potential departure of Croatian Ivan Rakitic in the summer. With Shaqiri also repeatedly linked to Liverpool and Arsenal in the BPL, we may be on the verge of a bidding war this summer. Especially if he performs at the World Cup.
The loss of Shaqiri would be a loss in attacking midfield depth for Bayern Munich, but one made more palatable by the addition of Sebastian Rode and the emergence of Thiago as a viable wide attacking midfielder earlier this season. Though I'll cry. A lot.
