After a rough run of results saw the Bayern Munich reserve teams huge lead in the Regionalliga Bayern evaporate, they've now won two in row after downing 17th place Spvgg Bayern Hof 2-0 at the Grünwald Stadion.
Erik ten Haag's side won on the back of two penalties, both slotted home by 19-year-old Austrian striker Kevin Friesenbichler, after leftback Dennis Chessa was fouled in the box on two different occasions . It was certainly an interesting week for the Bayern reserves with four of their number called in for in the senior sides 1-0 loss to Augsburg. With key losses in Pierre-Emil Hojbjerg, Ylli Sallahi, Mitchell Weiser, and Bayern II backup goalkeeper Leopold ZIngerle, the reserve were forced to dip far into their bench. The biggest surprises were the callups of U19 goalkeeper Raif Husic (who started over journeyman Andreas Rossi) and U19 midfielder Angelos Oikonomou who both played the entire match.
The win over Bayern Hof came along with a corresponding loss from 2nd place FV Illertissen. Their main rivals for the Regionalliga title lost 3-1 to TSV Buchbach. What was a one point lead in the Regionalliga has now opened up to four for the final run-in of the season. With both teams having matches next week against bottom 5 teams, this lead is a huge boost for Bayern Munich II ahead of their head-to-head clash on May 3rd and keeps the Bayern Munich reserves future in their own hands.
