It was a frustrating match for the Bayern Munich reserves as they traveled north to the town of Ingolstadt to take on the FC Ingolstadt reserves. In front of 650 spectators at the ESV Ingolstadt, Bayern Munich dropped all 3 points despite a superior performance on the evening. With several quality shots, some of which missed the goal by mere whiskers, it was a frustrating loss with FV Illertissen snapping at their heels in the table.
It took a 30-yard bomb from Ingolstadt defensive midfielder Manuel Ott in the 42nd minute to open the scoring. Seeing Lukas Raeder was off his line, the 21-year-old Philippines international let loose with a thunderbolt that screamed past Raeder and into the corner to put the home side up 1-0.
It wasn't until nearly 60 minutes had passed that Bayern Munich had their first truly clear cut opportunity. Striker Tobias Schweinsteiger was fouled in the area by Ingolstandt defender Patrick Walleth and the resulting penalty from Pierre-Emil Hojbjerg was well struck, yet unfortunately bounced off the post and out. It was enough to set the reserves alight as the pounded the Ingolstadt goal for the remainder of the match. But alas it was to no avail.
Bayern Munich II's loss was answered by FV Illertissen who hammered their opponents to close within 1 point in the Regionalliga Bayern. The reserves have now lost three of their last four, and have allowed the entire chasing pack to close with them at the top of the table. With only 11 games left in the Regionalliga Bayern season, Erik ten Haag's side really need to pick up the pace if they are going to even have a chance to achieve promotion. Up next for the Bayern Munich reserves is the sixth-place TSV Buchbach who they will host at the Grünwald stadion.
