Bayern Bulletin: Thiago has Thigh Bruise, Mandžukić's Agent in England

New, comments

The midfield in Mainz will not include Thiago Alcântara, and more news on Mario Mandžukić, Xherdan Shaqiri, and Toni Kroos

Thiago Kept Behind with Thigh Bruise

With possibly six consecutive weeks containing multiple matches, Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola elected to keep Thiago Alcântara back in Munich with a thigh bruise, according to kicker.

"It is not a big problem, but it did not get better," said Guardiola.

Thiago started 16 of 17 matches in all competitions after his return against Borussia Dortmund in November, but Guardiola has left his Barcelona holdover only once in the past three matches.

London Calling: Mandžukić's agent in England

The Summer transfer window opens in 15 weeks, which means the Spring transfer rumor season is beginning to churn.

According to Merkur via Sky Italia, Ivan Cvjetković, the agent for Mario Mandžukić, was in London this to meet with representatives from Arsenal and Chelsea. Both are allegedly looking for depth at the forward position.

Rumors have linked Mandžukić with an exit since Robert Lewandowski signed a 5-year contract back in January. Sky Italia reported earlier this week that Real Madrid has also contacted Mandžukić's representatives, although that neither report was confirmed.

Shaqiri "Contemplating" Bayern Exit

Xherdan Shaqiri's brother and agent, Erdin, has hinted that the Swiss international could be shopping his services in the summer.

"Xherdan is 22. At that age he needs to play regularly, which is not the case at the moment," Erdin told Blick. "We will surely wait until the Summer. If then clubs like Liverpool, Manchester United, Inter Milan or other top clubs come, then we will surely listen."

Liverpool has long pursued Shaqiri's services, and the 22-year-old has conversely expressed a curiosity in leagues outside of Germany on several occasions. The contract he signed in 2012 from FC Basel runs until 2016.

Guardiola: "I am very optimistic Kroos stays"

With constant Lewandowski like transfer rumors surrounding Toni Kroos, Guardiola was the latest to weigh in, answering a question during his pre-match press conference.

"I am very optimistic that he stays. That I hope. Everyone knows my opinion, what I think of him," said Guardiola [AZ]

Kroos has amassed the fourth-most minutes in all competitions in Guardiola's first year at the helm, sitting only behind Manuel Neuer, David Alaba, and Philipp Lahm.

Guardiola also relayed his respect for a Mainz side that is in great form as of late.

"They have lost one match out of their last 12. That says everything," he said.
