Schweinsteiger Can Pass Rummenigge
If Bastian Schweinsteiger makes an appearance on Sunday against Hannover 96, it'll be his 311th in a Bayern shirt. He'll pass Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who sits on 310 caps for FC Bayern, for sole possession of tenth place on the "Most Capped" list. This is a great accomplishment for Bastian and a true sign of his greatness and longevity.
Who are the nine players ahead of Schweinsteiger and Rummenigge?
- Sepp Maier
- Oliver Kahn
- Gerd Müller
- Georg Schwarzenbeck
- Klaus Augenthaler
- Franz Beckenbauer
- Bernd Dürnberger
- Mehmet Scholl
- Franz Roth
Roth is sitting on 322 appearances, so it's very possible that Bastian could pass him this season barring (god forbid) another injury.
Robben Discusses Contract
While a lot of the contract discussion has focused on Toni Kroos, Bayern are still working to extend the contract of Arjen Robben. When last we mentioned it, it appeared that things were moving along quite well, and things now appear to be getting serious. When asked about his contract just before leaving London after the Arsenal match, here's what Robben had to say.
"Right now, we have a lot going on with games and traveling. Maybe we'll get it completed the week after the Hannover game. Everything is basically done. It only lacks signatures."
So, it looks like we should keep our eyes open over the next few weeks to the club announcing Robben's contract extension.
Honigstein Provides Mandzukic Intrigue
In Raphael Honigstein's latest piece at ESPNFC.com, he takes a look at a lot of things surrounding Bayern's win over Arsenal in London. His opening paragraph is this:
It was business and pleasure as unusual for Bayern Munich in London on Wednesday night. The day had begun with striker Mario Mandzukic's agent, Ivan Cvjetkovic, having tea with club president Uli Hoeness in the Landmark Hotel lobby, and it ended -- for this column, at least -- with the same agent sitting in the lobby at close to 2 a.m., deep in conversation with colleague Giovanni Branchini. "Ten million," one said to the other.
I, for one, am very intrigued.
Finally, the club sent signed jerseys to Depeche Mode after a recent concert in Dresden.
