In what is exciting news for the Bayern Munich Frauen, 20-year-old academy product Lena Lotzen has signed a contract extension keeping her at the Grünwald Stadion through the end of the 2016 season.

The 20-year-old has been a mainstay in the Frauen side since her debut at the start of the 2010 season at the age of 16, making over 60 appearances and scoring 23 goals in that time. She was a critical piece in the German U19 women's team that won the women's U19 Euro 2011, scoring 5 goals in the tournament. She has been absent from the Frauen's season to date; sidelined by a broken foot.

The Bayern Munich Frauen director, Karin Danner was full of praise for her, saying "Lena is an important part of our team. With the extension, we clearly show that we all have great interest in continuity and sporting perspective for women's football in Munich for years to come. " [Team Site via Google Translate]

Bayern Frauen head coach Thomas Wörle was equally effusive with his words saying "Lena has performed very well in recent years at Bayern Munich, even and drill down into the senior team. >She has matured into a major player personality. I am very happy that she wants to participate intensively in the further development of women's football at Bayern Munich. " [via Google Translate]

It's only a matter of time before Lotzen returns to the pitch, hopefully partnering with fellow scoring machine Sarah Hagen in the Fraun's quest to win the Frauen Bundesliga trophy. They currently sit in fourth place on 18 points, 8 behind league leaders FFC Frankfurt.
