David Alaba was named the Austrian Footballer of the Year on Thursday, the fourth straight year the 22-year-old has won the award. He is now tied with Austrian Bundesliga legend Ivica Vastić with the most awards in its 31-year-history.
Alaba has continued his growth as a footballer, becoming one of Bayern's most critical players in 2014. A few position changes has unearthed more versatility, Pep Guardiola moving him centrally in both defense and midfield at times during the Hinrunde. He scored five goals and recorded six assist for club and country in 2014 while playing primarily in defensive positions for most of it.
Earlier this year, Alaba won the Austrian Sports Personality of the Year, making it two years in a row that he has won both awards. Still approaching his prime, the accolades from his home country are bound to keep coming.
