After having a relatively solid start to the season, including 9 appearances, Claudio Pizarro is going to have to spend some time not playing. The 36-year-old Peruvian was injured during practice on Monday and was diagnosed with a muscle tear in his right thigh according to the club. He is expected to be out at least several weeks.
While it certainly is a depth blow to Bayern Munich, it doesn't change anything for them on the pitch, besides lowering their hair game and attractive aging men quotients. Pizarro has been a solid off-the-bench force for Bayern Munich for three years now, and in many ways, his ability to reinvent himself as a technical striker capable of playing in a very creative role has been a revitalization for his career in the last couple of seasons.
Pizarro suffered from this same injury at almost exactly this point last season before returning and had a solid campaign for the remainder of the season. While an injury to a 36-year-old player is always a cause for concern, there should be no expectation that the same ability to bounce back won't hold true this year.
See you again soon Mr. Pizarro.
