Bayern Munich II lose for the first time since August

It was a match between first and third place, and the Würzburger Kickers came out on top.

No early goal

FC Bayern II entered the matchday third in the Regionalliga Bayern behind Würzburger Kicker and 1860 Munich II. A visit to the leaders was always going to be difficult. However, finally breaking a cycle that had been building against them over several weeks, Bayern didn't allow an early goal.

Kickers were on the attack early and nearly jumped out to a lead after only three minutes. Luckily for FCB, Christopher Bieber's header went wide of the post. Bayern was under the gun for a lot of the first half and have Daniel Müller to thank for not being behind. The goalkeeper did his job, denying Marco Haller and Liridon Vocaj scoring from good opportunities.

Back in it, but not quite

Bayern came out in the second half with an effort right away from Gerrit Wegkamp. However, the attacking fizzled fairly quickly, and Würzburger were right back at it. Müller was called to action several times, including big stops on Adam Jabiri and Steven Lewerenz. Then, in the 78th minute, Müller was saved when Dominik Nothnagel struck the post.

Late goal ends the streak

Unfortunately, FCB couldn't hold on for the remainder of the match. Würzburger's second half substitute Jabiri got onto the end of a cross from Nothnagel and put it past Müller for the 1-0 lead in the 87th. The final couple of minutes would tick off the clock, and FC Bayern suffered their first defeat since the end of August ending a run of nine matches unbeaten.

With 18 matches played, Bayern II sit in third place on 34 points, 9 behind first place Würzburger. They'll return to the field on Friday November 7 against Wacker Burghausen.
