Bayern Munich to face Eintracht Braunschweig in DFB-Pokal Round of 16

Bayern faces Braunschweig for the sixth time in the cup and will host their first Achtelfinale match in nine seasons

Bayern Munich will take on Eintracht Braunschweig in the Round of 16 of the DFB-Pokal. The match will take place on March 3/4, 2015 at Allianz Arena.

The Roten beat Hamburg SV 3-1 in the German Cup second round on Wednesday to advance to the Round of 16. After traveling to Augsburg each of the past two seasons, Bayern instead get to host their first third-round match in Allianz Arena since the December of 2005.

The pairing will mark the sixth time that the two have faced each other in the DFB-Pokal, including a replay for Bayern victory in 1972. Bayern have only lost once to Braunschweig in the cup, getting knocked out of the second round of the 82/83 DFB-Pokal with a 0-2 loss. Bayern holds a 25 W - 12 D - 6 L record all-time against Braunschweig.

After relegation from the Bundesliga earlier this year, Braunschweig currently sit 10th in the 2. Bundesliga with 14 points. Bayern will be the first top-flight club Braunschweig will face this season after 1-0 victories over regional opponents Bremer SV and Würzburger Kickers. Håvard Nielsen, Braunschweig's top league goalscorer, has been the only goalscorer thus far in the DFB-Pokal.

This match for Bayern will fall between Rückrunde fixtures against 1. FC Köln and Hannover 96. That gives the Rekordmeister a favorable stretch in the second half of the season against sides that struggle to score. It will also be sandwiched between two Round of 16 matches in the UEFA Champions League, something Bayern will likely participate in after getting nine points in their first three matches.

Only two Bundesliga teams were paired together – SC Freiburg and Köln – which was inevitable with nine top-flight teams advancing. Here is the full draw for DFB-Pokal Draw Round of 16:

Bayer Leverkusen vs. 1. FC Kaiserslautern
Kickers Offenbach vs. Borussia Monchengladbach
Bayern München vs. Eintracht Braunschweig
VfR Aalen vs. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim
RB Leipzig vs. VfL Wolfsburg
Arminia Bielefeld vs. Werder Bremen
SC Freiburg vs. 1. FC Köln
Dynamo Dresden vs. Borussia Dortmund
