Bayern Munich turning to a Bundesliga veteran until Pepe Reina and Tom Starke return?

A Bundesliga veteran was at training on Monday ahead of a potential deal.

Last season, Bayern Munich were set with Manuel Neuer and Tom Starke as the goalkeepers on the senior roster. Then, Starke picked up an injury, and Bayern was forced to bring Lukas Raeder up to the senior roster from the reserves. Raeder, only 20, had yet to play a game at a level higher than the Regionalliga with FCB II.

Then, Neuer was injured against Borussia Dortmund, and Raeder was forced into action. While he wasn't bad at all with the first team, Bayern thought they made sure that they wouldn't be forced into that situation again when they bought Pepe Reina this summer.

As you would expect, we didn't make it through October before both Reina and Starke were sidelined with injuries.

Bayern brought up Leopold Zingerle from the reserves to back up Neuer until either of the goalkeepers return. However, in an effort to make sure that they don't have to rely on another young, inexperienced goalkeeper in an important game, it looks like Bayern is turning elsewhere for some help.

That would be former Mainz goalkeeper Heinz Müller at Bayern training on Monday. The rumors would suggest that Bayern are interested in bringing Müller in on a short term deal in order to provide some Bundesliga experience on the bench behind Neuer. Once Reina or Starke return, Müller would likely find his way back to retirement.

Why does Müller make more sense than the oft-rumored signing of former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes? There are two reasons.

First, Bayern would be looking for a stop gap until the two regular backups return. Valdes may be looking for a more permanent contract in the mold of what Reina received.

Secondly, and most important, Müller has Bundesliga experience and speaks the language. You must remember that this is a last ditch "break the glass only if necessary" type of move.

What do you think of the potential move? Would you like to see Bayern bring in Müller as a temporary backup until Reina/Starke return?
